What's really cool is I get to use knives a lot :D

We opened a Horse barn. Boarding and Lessons. (my wife's idea)
I'm just the strong back, the weak mind and the check book - but every
farm needs one of those.

We both work "real" jobs - full time. This is a mornings, nights and weekends thing. So if I haven't posted much, it's because I've been a wiska' busy (understatement) But the tough part is over, it's stocked, and open.

We rented a 40 acre barn 4 miles from our house. It's where she was boarding and helping run, and it came up for rent so ...

We did this for 7 years in NH (full time) She's done it her whole life. Nothing new for us.

We're already in the black too - (if you call just enough for beer money in the black) LOL But for a week open - ain't bad.

Here's a pic of the place - I'll post some more

Congratulations on the new business, bud. Wish you and "the boss" the best of luck! :D

Thanks man. Appreciate it. And it IS her gig - no dought. (LOL)

I tell ya though - nothing like getting 150 bales of hay, 50 lb. bags of grain, shavings for the stalls, etc. - Couple truck loads of gravel and sand to level stalls.

Fixing fencing, hanging the sign, cleaned the whole joint (just old junk) Still needs lots of fencing work, ring work, roof work, ...

Heck of a work out this week - starting to get me back in shape even. (heven forbid) :D

Good Luck! These are hard times and if you can start a business and right away net even beer money, that's a good sign. Enjoy! Looks like fun.

We went to town this morning for Supplies
("loaded up the olde buck board" - lol)
My truck is earning it's kibbles and bits
Even got treated to a "gormet lunch ..."

We were pressed for time - had to get back to meet a potential boarder.
You know you're busy when you're mowing a cheeseburger on the tailgate in the parking lot ...

75 lb. Stall mats and 50 lb. salt blocks - mats are 3/4 inch rubber, 4' x 6' (PIA to move)

[/IMG]

First we leveled the stalls with gravel and clay, put the mats in, then cover with shavings ... and voila ... a clean, bedded stall, ready to rent.

Horses like salt blocks (makes them drink more and gives vitamins and minerals) some one told once that horses drink 15 gals. of water a day.

Hope ya'll enjoyed the pics. I won't bore you any more.

Near Charlottesville?

I'm truly envious. If I could figure out a way to integrate "horse" into my screen name, I would. Even though I've never been able to spend enough time on the, I feel a kindred spirit with horses similar to that with dogs.

Just west of Lynchburg, Goode/Bedford.

It is nice to be back outside working again. Nice offset.

Best wishes and good luck. Thank you for the photos. I really love horses, but i have rided only one time.

very nice

good luck in your endeavors

I know you can justify wearing a Bk on your hip for that kind of work

at least you have good taste in trucks:thumbup: horses, not so much:) j/k

I like steel horses myself:p

good luck with your venture, and be careful some boardie's have a mind of their own..

Congrats. Looks like a lot of fun, beautiful place to work. Any job openings? Pretty please. :D

Congratulations bro. I hope it works out for you and your wife

My colleague at work also runs a riding school/horse boarding. Ive only seen it once, i think its as big as yours. Her husband works there fulltime, while shes there on her days off, etc. Only difference is that they live on the property too.

Good luck with the project!

Good luck.
We also boarded horses for awhile.
Not that large, but still pretty nice.

Hey Cobra....

I wish you and your wife the very best of luck on your new endeavor.....I have not mucked a stall for a very long time and I gotta say I have not missed it LOL......I used to ride quite a bit when I was ten or twelve....Traded work for rides......Had a severe cowboy thing going then.....

The VERY BEST of luck......

All Best.....

Cobra, good luck from another TN voice.
Looks like you're running a nice, tight outfit there.
Beautiful country too.
