Got this much done on the forge today. Cut the two freon tanks with a jig saw. That took a bit of time and a few blades. The half on the right was stretched using a ballpeen hammer and a dished block of wood. The 2 halves will now overlap about 1 1/2". Tomorrow i will attempt to weld with a borrowed MIG .
Considering the fact I have never welded, it should be interesting  . I made the leg assemblys from scrounged shelf braces.
The shell will be appx 9 1/2"X22". Update: Fedex just delivered my order from Darren Ellis(very nice guy).... I now have all the parts..

Cool,

Just set the welder to the lowest setting to avoid burning holes and you'll do fine.

Clean that coating off at least an inch to either side of the weld joint. Not only will it mess up the weld, I think it gives off toxic fumes when it burns. Should come off witha wire wheel, or emery cloth (don't breath the dust either)

Just found out that I need hard fire brick for the floor of the forge. I only ordered soft fire brick.Missed that in my research.OOPS
Does anyone have a source?
thanks,
Mike

The soft fire bricks will still work, they just won't hold up as long. If you have 1 1/2" lap it will hold together fine with just a couple tack welds or even sheet metal screws.

Boy that looks like a great start tack weld the two together or as Raymond said sheet metal screws work good, as for the brick be sure to get hard fire brick they are called half brick and they are made for the floors in fire places .cost about $1.00 each will with stand flux for years
like all hard brick it can be cut with a block saw or you can cut a grove around the brick and tap with a hammer on the grove and break it to size /
call your local brick supply yard and ask for fire brick and if they have it in half brick

Its 1 “ thick 3 ½ wide and 8 “ long

One other consideration. Cut a wide metal band, say 2" and insert where the two halves join, to make a inside sleeve. This will help hold for screws, or add more meat to weld. $.02
