Let's say a complete newb has decided to try his hand at sharpening and has purchased a Tsprof Pioneer for that purpose (and knows that might be overkill). Let's further assume that said newb has a nice set of Wusthof knives (chefs, slicers, parers) as well as a few popular EDC pocket knives (PM 2 & 3, Bugout, Shanam, etc.) that are in pretty good shape and he just wants to keep them so. No plans for repairs or reprofiling - just putzing with a new sharpening system and keeping his edges in good shape. Newb has decided that Venev Orion fit the bill for stones. Question: What would be a good "starter set" of stones (2?, 3?, 4?, ?) for this newb?

When you get them check for flatness. I've seen some reports those aluminium blanks are not flat.

If you don't plan to reprofile and you're just going to setup and match existing angles, you could do just fine with a 400 and an 800. 400 would be a good toothy/working edge for EDC and 800 would be a nice finisher for your kitchen knives. If you wanted to get into near mirror/polished edges you could add a 1500 or if you wanted something coarse in case you decided to change angles you could add the 150. If the cost isn't problematic and you wanted a "full" set you could get all four- 150, 400, 800, and 1500 and have just about all your bases covered.
