I have a Moran Drop Point fixed blade in vg10 and it's worked well around the house and yard. I am looking for ideas to get my first spyderco folder. I was looking at the salt series since I do a lot of fishing but I also want to use it for work light yard work and in construction. I do find function in a partially serrated blade and a descent lanyard hole is important. Thought I would call on you guys for some advice. Can't carry the fixed blade in public around here without scaring folks or customers.

Vg10 seems to have pretty good rust resistance, and I've found easier to maintain than my h1. I would look into a ffg Delica in vg10. It functions well in most every task. May not be the greatest at all of them but effectively completes the work. You should be able to find a partial serrated blade or maybe look into a full serrated edge. You will also pretty much have whatever you want for handle color. If you are looking for something a bit bigger I'd go with a Paramilitary 2. If you've never held one you really are missing out. Just a great knife and the one that I've carried most often as of late.

My favorite is the military but if you've got an eye on the salt line give one a try. Fully serrated H1 steel cuts like mad and sharpens easily in my experience.

The manix 2 is another good fit for your uses that can be found with serrations.

The Pacific Salt is a good , larger knife if you are around saltwater. I use it to cut up mullet , cut bait , etc. It is not really a fillet knife tho as it does not flex. I have both a PE and an SE. The SE is an good yard , vine , shrub knife so either is a good choice. The SE requires less sharpening but I dont mind maintaining a blade. The Endura is almost the same knife in VG-10 which I like. I prefer larger blades so the Delica and smaller don't work for me. I do carry a Salt 1 or a Tasman Salt on my wade belt tho.The Stretch is an excellent all purpose slicer and EDC but I don't use it as a beater. My beater is a $28 Rat 1.
You are talking $60 or so for Endura , $68 or so for the Pacific Salt and about $78 for the Stretch VG-10. All are really good blades as is the Rat 1 for that matter.

Dang, I paid 30 for my Rat-1. And a Delica here is about 75. Eh, I guess that's OK, considering it's instantaneous gratification. But all the Spydercos here are partially serrated so I wouldn't get them anyway. :D

They are all combo edges ? That's messed up. I have a hard time warming up to serrated edges although I do like my Pacific Salt SE but it's uses are limited.

Yeah, when I say here, I really am just talking about the Post Exchange here. For some reason AAFES thinks a combo edge or a fully serrated knife is what the Soldier wants or needs. Disgusting that some mallrat exec thinks he knows what I might like or need.

Delica with FRN handles and VG-10. If you need something bigger, then I would say the Endura with FRN and VG-10. You can pick you favorite color for the handles as both have lots of choices.

I'm leaning towards the Paramilitary 2, just have to save the extra $$$!

PM2 is a great knife - but I think the Endura is a better value - just my opinion. If you can go to a store and try out both, that would be best for deciding which fits you.

Endura with either full serrations or combo blade is a fantastic starter. No nonsense, tough as old boots with great steal and a solid easy to use back lock. For a general work knife I'm a big fan of serrations.

Pm2 is a great call as is the Military. As far as the frn knives go, the Pacific Salt is by far my most used Spyderco folder. I even prefer the linerless pac salt to the Endura. The only thing I would say on the salts is I always go serrated since there is such a big difference between serrated h1 and plain edge h1. (edge retention wise)

tough about the native 5 ! grate all around and EDC folder, and solid folder at that.

One plain edge H1, one serrated H1 -- left pocket carry and right pocket carry. Get to fishing.
