Im looking to buy my first spyderco and have about 60 bucks to spend. I Heard good things about the Delica. But what makes the spyderedge different from other serrations on other knife brands? Also, do you think the delica would be a good starter spyderco, or is there another i should look at?

I'm real fond of my Native in S30V. It'll handle most everyday cutting chores. And if it matters, I've found it fairly sheeple friendly.

I think either the Delica or the larger Endura would make a fine first Spydie. To me they represent everything that Spyderco is about.

The "spyderedge" just really cuts well. The best would be to find a store where you could handle 'em & pretty quick one'll say "take ME". If you can bring a little leather, rope, cardboard, or all of the above, and do a little cutting before you buy, you'll understand much better than we can tell you here.

I'd suggest the Delica or the Native. Personally, I like the Native a little better but both are good choices.

MdBlades, here's the toll free number for Spyderco. Call 'em & they should be able to find a retail outlet near you. Let us know what ya get.

I was a little hesitant to get an Endura or Delica, I still don't own them, to me they look funny, but they are good knives.
My first Spydie was a Native, But now I've got others. For a "non-Spydie" Spyderco, look at the custom collaborations. You can find retired ones on ebay and other places. Think about how you like a knife to feel in your hand and what you'll be using it for. When you see it, you'll know. But take a little time and do some homework to check out all of the models.
A couple warnings:
1) Civilian and Matriarch have tips are not guaranteed under hard use.
2) Chinook is a heavy and beefy and large lock back, it's a bit tough to open.
Good Luck.

I found one place, but i dont know if its got a regular store or not. The website is www.knifecenter.com and they are in college park. It sucks that Chesapeak knife and tool doesnt carry them, or id go there.

I've bought loads of stuff from knifecenter over the net, great selection and good prices. Spyderco has a wide selection of lock backs in your price range, the Native in S30V is a nice choice as is the classic Delica now in VG-10. My first was an Endura, still a great design.

Be warned: Spyderco is a Gateway Knife into the madness we share...

MdBlades, I would suggest the Delica, or Endura, as a good starter Spydie...the Delica SE was mine. :D Don't let the FRN handle fool you, they can take a beating and can handle just about anything that you throw at them. With either one, I know that you wouldn't be disappointed.

IMHO, the SpyderEdge serrations are the BEST out on the market. For the best explanation on how the SpyderEdge works, click this link HERE.

BTW, WalkingMan, the Civilian and Matriarch are not knives for general utility use....they are strictly for self defense.

I remember there used to be a cheap compny of no name pakisthan knives that copied spydercos designs, even the serrations, and stuff, but had an eagle on the handle... Anyway, i found a place in fredrick that stocks the spydercos, so im going there tomarrow (Woo, my first trip to a real knife shop). I'll let you guys know what i buy. Even if it isnt a spyderco.

My first Spyderco was a PE FRN Delica. It's still in my pocket almost all of the time. I bought it about 18 months ago, and since then, have bought 7 (? more or less, probably more) other Spyderco lockbacks and/or fixed blades. The PE Delica is still the best all-around knife I've bought, except for perhaps the Native III PE. That's a completely different knife, though. The Delica would definately be a great first Spydie to buy.

Endura, all the way. it is my first Spydie (just got it last week), and it's an absolute beauty. mine is the stainless steel version, and was just a little over 50, shipped, new in box. it's a little weighty, but i love the way it rides in my pocket, and when you heft it, you'll know it means business. it is bigger than some folders, but it's not too big.

if you're interested in something a little smaller, go with the Delica. another beautiful folder!

all in all, you can't go wrong with ANY Spyderco knife. however, having said that, BUY THE ENDURA. you will love it.

Endura.

The Endura is a little bigger than the Delica and should be a little more capable. Both are great though.

Normally, I'd suggest a SS PE Delica, or the slightly larger Endura as a great 1st Spydie, BUT today I received one of the new FRN Native III (in plain-edge) from a trade, and so THAT is the one that I'll suggest.

Native III...What a "COOL" knife!.:).
