Starter update on YouTube

Fingers crossed to the scandi working out! Thanks for sharing.

The "scandi" grind has been around for a long time. It was never intended for the punishment that today's super steels can hold up to. That is why most hard use scandi knives have a secondary bevel that adds support to the edge. Or even a scandi-vex if you will where the whole scandi is convex.

Thanks for the video update. It looks like I guessed wrong and sold my original 3.5 too soon. Sounds like it could be at least 6 months before I see my new Starter 3.5. But it's not like I don't have plenty of other knives to help me through the withdrawal :)

Personally I learned my lesson years ago, I never "pay" for something unless:
1. It physically exists.
2. It's actually available.
3. Ships in a reasonable amount of time.

But as I say, that's just how I personally roll.

When I purchased my GSO 4.1 M-390 it physically existed, was in stock, shipped in less then 9 days.
When I purchased my GSO 3.5 CPM-20CV it physically existed, was in stock, shipped in less then 9 days.

Good character counts for a lot. It is, of course, a risk and a wait, but I believe I will take a chance with these fine people.

I kinda agree with Knocks on this. I have been involved in the hobby more than a while and have paid for goods from seemingly legit makers only to lose my funds and have nothing to show. In the scheme of things, a long time to wait for gear (7/7 3.5 and a 2.7. ) is bearable. If you are in the investment you know the risks. If the company intends to live up to their rep I win. I lose? I go earn some more money and buy something else. Each to their own I suppose. The wait and risk is worth it for me.

Agreed. One of the few opportunities to help invest in a small business with integrity, and get a knife out of the deal.

The good thing about S!k is it does not cost an arm or a leg to buy their knives. Unlike some makers where it's triple the price and it takes them 2+ years to make it.

"triple the price and it takes them 2+ years to make it." = custom knives.
"The good thing about S!k is it does not cost an arm or a leg to buy their knives." = production knife.

I decided I was willing to gamble on Guy's stellar products and reputation. Normally, I'm with Chambelona59 and will only buy something physically available either on the Exchange or eBay, or from a reputable dealer. And, as mentioned above, it wasn't a huge amount of money. That said, given the current hot market for pre-owned 3.5s (mine sold same-day), I thought they would be one of the most ordered Starter knives. This is why I'm not an investment banker and/or retired in Tahiti...
