Like loonybin, my son (about the same age) is also wanting to try throwing knives. A question on the recommmended Condors... can they be used equally well for both "no-spin" and "spin" throwing? Or are knives that are advertised as "half" or "no spin" pretty much only ideal for the advertised throwing style?

I alternate between spin, half spin, and no spin throws with both models of condor throwers (dismissal, half spin) They work well.

I don't like Dismissals for no-spin, but I know many throwers who do. Ignore the advertised names.

So your knives would be great for spin throwing as well, Patrick?

I think about 95% of serious spin throwers use big knives - 14 inch average length. The competitions require a 12 inch minimum length. The vast majority of my knives are shorter than 12 inches, so it's hard for me to recommend them for spin throwing without that caveat. The few that are over 12" are certainly up for the task.

What I should have said is 'ignore the advertised names if the knife is mass produced.'

Ended up ordering a set of three cheap knives and one quality knife. If this father and son enjoy the sport, will be looking at getting a few more quality pieces. Thanks for the replies.
