starting collection

Half knife, half machete, all chopper goodness. :) Yes, it is a nice piece for sure.

The sky is the limit for you now. What kinds (styles) of knives are you interested in? Budget? You will get countless recommendations on where to go next, if you need any advice.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

The great thing about collecting is you can collect whatever you want. If you want to collect choppers, machete, bolo, kukri, etc, that is your business. Some folks like all military stuff. Some collect swords. If it has an edge and cuts, you will be fine here.

I started out with choppers, an Ontario SP-1 was my first "good" knife. I think that is an awesome start! Better than an M-Tech, that's for sure!

looking rlly for military blades as like learning history behind them and don't rlly have a budget as I just get what talks to me

Check out the Fairbairn-Sykes dagger, that knife was the best thing ever to me when I first got into knives.

Buy the knives that catch your eye. I like the budget stuff… I do splurge from time to time
Agreed. Buy what you like and let the collection form naturally over time.

A collection is about how you present some of your knives to highlight a theme. If you allow it to dominate your buying decisions, you may as well order everything in the catalog in one shot. Then you would have a collection, but it would be dull and uninspired.

Once you've listened to everyone else, listen to yourself last when making your purchase decision. You will find that you'll sometimes be fed a line of bull by those who might want to sell you something, with those above certainly excluded from this reference:).

Whatever you start with probably will not be the same thing you collect or use a few years (or months) down the road. The cool thing is that these early purchases can be quite a learning experience.

Enjoy!

As other said, collecting is based on your preference theme.
Your theme seems to be military relics, which is on a rather the high price range, sometimes questionable performance (you know, military contracts and all) and might not get to use them too often since they are relic.
My theme is the budget variant of the classic models. Generally only different in scale while having the same blade. Inexpensive, generally lighter, but as dependable and useful, just like the the mainstream models.

The first knife is the first step...
To a first rate collection!
Happy Hunting, and Good Luck!
