Hello all,

Quick question from a girl looking for a birthday gift. My boyfriend has mentioned wanting to get into sheath making, but I have no idea where to start.

If I wanted to put together a small sheath-making starters kit, what might it include? I don't want to put TOO much money into it, in case he doesn't end up liking the hobby, but he seemed really interested in wanting to try.

If it helps, he owns a bunch of Spydercos and at least one SOG, but I really can't remember the specifics of the rest of his collection.

Thanks!

Try the Wild Rose Trading video on sheath making. I just got it and it is a very good how to. Its about 45 dollars. Then let him see what is involved and see if he wants to move forward. If not you could sell it here on the for sale area, and I am sure somebody would snatch it up.

I would recommend the leather starter's kit from Tandy instead of specific sheath kit. I only say this because you can get the pre-made kit from Tandy with all the basic tools and such. Unfortunately this on includes simple projects like wallets and such, no knife specific stuff.

If you are hard set on putting a kit together, he will need everything in the links below. Good luck!

The recommendations from Eric are good.

The video and the book are essentials. If you get him nothing else, be sure to get these two items.

The items listed by Eric can at least get him started on making something.

Of course, if he decides to pursue the craft, there's always lots of other things he will undoubtedly want like glue, chemicals, a decent leather knife, etc.

I think it sounds like a great gift idea.

Good luck,

Mike L.
