I have been posting on the General Knife Forum and several people over there have said I should post here as traditional pocket knives is what I will be collecting. So, over the past week I have ordered 8 Case pocket knives (the brand I am going to collect). Two were from Amazon (the first 2) and the next 6 were from eBay. The 2 from Amazon I could not find on eBay and the price total for the 2 was about $20 less than SMKW. The 6 (all new) from eBay averaged $37.55 each so I think I got some really good deals there. I also have 6 Rough Riders on the way as I wanted to check out various patterns without spending too much. The Case knives are 1 trapper, 1 stockman, 1 peanut, 1 copperhead, 1 mini trapper, 1 humpback half whittler, 1 barlow, and 1 toothpick. They are all in different handle colors/materials. I wanted to "jump start" my collecting so that is why I ordered as many knives as I did. I will only be collecting new knives.

I recently retired and collecting Case pocket knives is something I have wanted to do for many years. Now, with the kids all grown and on their own, I will have the money/time to pursue this.

How do you store your knives..in the boxes or out? If out of the boxes how/where do you store them? I was thinking of keeping mine out of the boxes so I can "mess" with them easier when I want but I'm not sure what kind of container to use for this. Ideas?

I have spent countless hours on line researching Case and am astounded at the number of knives available within any given pattern. Other than eBay & Amazon what other stores should I be checking out?

Thanks in advance. My wife thinks I am certified crazy now!

Store recommendations in posts are limited to those with BF dealer memberships.

Mike Latham at collectorknives.net, carries a fair selection of hard to find Case knives.

Knifecenter, Grand Prairie knives, and New Graham also stock Case knives.

Welcome to the forum!

There are a lot of different ways to store knives for easy access. I use these glass top display cases because I can look at almost my entire collection all at once and if I want to grab a knife all I have to do is lift the lid. Extra large knives won't fit in the slots but most traditional knives do.

They come in different sizes but I use the 12 x 18 size. If you should happen to choose these as your method of storage I recommend replacing the black felt pad inside with something white or free of dye. The dye used in the supplied pads will discolor the bolsters within a few months. I picked up some white felt at the local hobby shop and cut it to size. No problems with bolster discoloration in last three years.

I am not permitted to post the dealer that sells these as they are not a Bladeforums dealer but if they interest you just click on my screen name and send me an email.

Wishing you lots of good times on your new journey.

I use Plano tackle boxes to store some of my knives in and keep the knife boxes in a box out in my shop.

Tell you wife you're not nuts yet. Show her these these pictures and tell her this is what she has to look forward to. They are just a few of my Case knives - many of them go back quite a few years.

Fairhaven - check your visitor messages - I gave you a good list of places to buy Case knives a couple of days ago.

Welcome to the addiction. I store mine in a wood box that was originally used to display kitchen silverware. I have seen a lot of people using tool chests for theirs. The locking ones are great if you're worried someone might try to walk off with your knives.

Another suggestion for you. Join the Case Collector's Club. A Regular Membersip is $20.00 per year and gives you access to limited club only knives and sets, plus a member forum which is rather active. Check it out on the W. R. Case web site. http://www.wrcase.com/collectors_club/. I joined it and found it to be worth the small annual fee.

I looked at it because of this post. It would be nice if there were some CV options in the collector club knives.

You're off to a good start, joining a community like this. Case is a solid brand by all means, and certainly geared towards collectors and users alike. Rough Riders are great as well, in their own right, and make good users. In all honesty aside from a couple of rarer, NOS folders, most of my boxes were discarded long ago, I keep mine readily accessible so I can play around with them.

The OP hasn't posted in a while. A shame since he seemed like an enthusiastic new collector.
