State Knife Auctions... anyone know about them???

I recently read in either Tactical Knives magazine or Blade magazine about the knives being confiscated by airports, and how the states are selling them in auctions.
Does anyone know where to go for these auctions? I don't have the article anymore...

Has anyone ever purchased a knife through one of these auctions?

Thanks in advance...
Cleary

P.S. Sorry if this was the wrong area to post...

The closest I've been to a state auction is Central Valley Wholesale airport donation Victorinox Classics with logos. I bot two lots. Thirty or so knives, as a few extra beaters were thrown in.

Unit cost was about $1.14 (with shipping included in unit price). I can't tell you how much fun it was to spiff up the lot and give one to everyone who would hold still long enough this last Thanksgiving. They make great gifts. Gave one to my brother-in-law who lost a knife to the airport folks. Payback.:)

There were a few gems. Most hardly used. They were mostly complete with toothpicks and tweezers. I think one had two tweezers and no pick. No broken parts. One or two minor cracked scales.

I trust this vendor. A member of the Secret Order of Swiss Army Knives. I can vouch for him.

I've looked at the state sites and can't say that I am encouraged. The feedback ratings were below my requirements. I can't see paying for disappointment. But then hey, a gamble might just pay off.

With the airport rules changing this month you probably shouldn't wait much longer. Please let me know how you do.

It's my opinion that anyone that buys knives that have been taken from passengers are guilty of recieving stolen property.

Same. I don't think it matters who stole it first, whether it be a thug... or some thugs (a branch of the government).

Peace.

Gotta agree with Ken here.

The fact that the states are making money off the items they steal makes it even worse IMHO. :grumpy:  :barf:

If they were illegal enough to confiscate, should they not be destroyed instead of turned over for profit?

Wonder how many fell into guards or staffer's pockets instead of the confiscation bin, that pisses me even more so.

I don't recall their id's but I have seen some confiscated knives being auctioned on EBAY recently.

No. They should have allowed the passenger the chance to return the item to their car or mail it back home. But common sense is something that is lost of TSA agents.

Wait... they don't give them the chance to mail it? WOOOH that is wrong! Alrighty... icks-nay on the auction-ay. Thanks for some good info. I'll buy the legit knives...

Thanks again guys...

P.S. Oregon, by the way man, what airport laws are changing?

Some, formerly disallowed, tools will be allowed to be carried on planes starting later this month. I haven't seen a complete listing yet. Such a thread was discussed here.

It's my uderstanding that knives will remain to be banned from commercial airline flights. The new rules apply to "small tools". I take that to mean nail clippers, tweezers, and similar non-knife items. But I haven't read the other forum topics or detailed news articals.

Buying confiscated knives, a moral dillema? At least the knives aren't being destroyed. And hopefully the "second owners" use more common sense than the first.
