Does anyone know of a site that breaks down the laws concerning knives on a state by state basis? I haven't seen one but I would be surprised if there isn't one.
Thanks,

I'm looking for the same compilation of Compilation of State Laws concerning knives. Also, Dano suggested a book entitled "Peace Officers Guide to Dangerous Weapons" - Look under the topic "California Law Re: Push Daggers" in the Gen. Forum for more details. I'd be interested in any info you find on this subject, please cc.

Take care.

I have a mostly California knife law reference page on my site -
www.chaicutlery.com/knifelaw.html

It includes, among other things, all the "dirk or dagger" appellate cases I can find, which prove, among other things, that just because you have read the code section with comprehention doesn't mean that you know the law.

Thanks for all the info gentleman. After placing a few calls to the MSP, hagerstown barracks; the PSP, carlisle, harrisburg barracks; WVSP, martinsburg barracks; VSP, winchester barracks, I see that the state knife laws are not well known by even the fine men enforcing them. I think my best bet is to go to the local college's law library and research the laws myself. That and always remember that I'm carrying the knife to open boxes, cut fruit, for the job, etc.

One little gem of wisdom I did pick up: in Maryland it's up to the officer's judgement if what you are carrying is a weapon, not blade length, style, etc. Can't get much more vague then that! Hopefully this is false but it sounds like Maryland to me. I am so glad I finally moved away from that state.
