Switched over to a ceramic platin and got zapped pretty good a few times.
To cure the problem I bought a static dissapating mat. It's 3/4 inch thick, also orthopedic, and no more shocks.
SOOOOO nice to stand on.
Janitorial Suppy stores carry them.

great idea, TJ.

any idea if it would hold up to outdoor use? (rain, snow, mud, etc.)

I think the mats would stand up to outside use. There is one version for welding. I'll check and post info.

There is an anti-static spray in a can that works pretty good, too. It's not messy, and is used by the munition industries a lot. I used to use it myself when I pressed warheads and HE projectiles. Even though you have a good ground system, static charge will build up and discharge when the moisture and temp is just right, it seems. You DON'T like static sparks when working hands on with high explosives! Dust and fumes can be ignited as well, as we know. I can bet more than one thumb has been put into a grinder because of a spark. I will probably return to work tomorrow, and can get the name, etc., of the spray, and post it. You just whiz a little spray around your immediate work area, static is gone.
