Being fairly new I just found the thread. Is this option still available? Anybody gotten their blades?

I think I was the 1st one to get the blades only.
I bought an 18" Chainpuri and a new style Hanuman blade.
The Chainpuri is now finished and waiting on me to get the sheath done and pix taken. Hopefully Monday will see that done and then I can get the pix developed and off to Uncle Bill.

Everyone is gonna be real surprised to see the difference between the original blade and what I have done with it.
It is now a pretty much Full Curved Khukuri and it is a Balance model as well.

It has an African Knobthorn handle, complements of Lance Strong, and copper fittings. The blade has been blued with Brownell's Cold Blue and the original hammer dingy finish has been retained.
I believe everyone will find it quite beautiful when it gets posted.

It will be some time before I get to the other one as I have some obligations I must get fullfilled first.

Thanks Yvsa for the quick reply! I was just looking at the pix of your blades uncle put up. looking forward to seeing your work.

I got one of the blades. I got an 18" AK. I haven't done much work on it yet. Mainly, I've just been reading about how to go about finishing it (I have absolutely no experience doing this sort of thing, but I figured there was only one way to learn and that's to just jump right in). I was impressed with how well the kami (Sher) shaped the blade just out of the forge. In fact, I think I might order another blade to leave unfinished just as a conversation piece.

Yvsa, do you think you could give us a general run-down on how you actually finished the blades? It would be helpful for us newbies.

I work wood for a living so this idea really appeals to me. I've got a burl up in the rafters of my shop that been waiting for the saw for three years now...I'm thinking hanuman myself....only reference to price I've been able to find is "somewhere between 1/3 & 1/2" and money up front....uncle?

Steven when Uncle posts the pix I will give a rundown. It wasn't much really with the Grizzly knife and
belt sander. The handle and fit and finish took more time than finishing the blade.
And the sheath is taking me longer than it should as well.

Atc I got the Hanuman blade, but it is going to have a more conventional handle on it. I got it with a looong tang.

It is a formidable blade. Sanu made this one and it's Heavy! I have already ground off a lot of the material along the spine and its edges. It will be a nice knife when finished though.
I don't believe that I am up to carving a true likeness of Hanuman on any kind of wood.

When/If I ever decide to do another it will probably be the HI Kothmoda blade, it's Awesome!!!

The blades only project is alive and well but it takes a backseat to production models which we are constantly running out of. In shop parlance we call the project "shelf work." But, we have two new kamis and may have a couple more coming soon so I hope we will be able to catch up and quit hardening tangs due to rush. When I say we are supply side limited I really mean it.
