The tour was AWESOME! No new info on the forum knife unfortunately but there was plenty of other really cool sights and info to take in.
Our group was the very first group that Buck has allowed to tour the Cerakote coating room which was REALLY cool! It’s a VERY sensitive process with several steps that have to be followed to a “T”. For example, the coating has to sit for a minimum of 15 minutes, but no longer than an hour and a half before setting or the whole process is ruined. Buck is still perfecting their technique on SEVERAL different colors (they had a couple dozen on display and said they had access to hundreds). You should be able to find Buck’s Paklite in several different colors soon (Robin’s Egg Blue was sooo beautiful) as well as some new color choices for blades.
Another cool part was we walked past a table with a bunch of nylon 112 scales. The kicker... They were ALL KINDS of colors. The tour guide said it hadn’t been announced yet but soon you’ll be able to find a Buck 110 LT, 112 LT, etc in any number of colors. I saw blue, red, and green.
Let’s see... Oh! The warranty department was rad! It’s ran by
ONE person who has been taking care of our knives for
43 years! When you send a knife in for repair, he is the ONLY person who works on your knife. I find that very awesome. I find it incredible that Buck offers a lifetime warranty on all their knives, regardless of how you acquired them. Buy a blemish? Covered. Find a 110 under a rock? Covered. Amazing. He had a “greatest hits” wall with five six of the worst of the worst he has seen in his 43 years with Buck. I wish I could have gotten a picture, some were so mangled that I’m not sure how he identified the model to send a replacement!
They also had a newer machine that they were excited about. The machine allows them to make both male and female knife hardware IN HOUSE so they no longer have to outsource for screws and whatnot. Just another reason to be a fan of Buck.
All in all, we had a fantastic time and I would highly recommend and knife enthusiast stop by for a tour if you’re in the area!
It's an unbadged Cabelas Alaskan Guide 119. Very nice knife.
RW Rosewood
CA , I believe means Cabelas
Could be mistaken
Good call! I talked to them today and that’s exactly what it is. S30V with a black TiNi coating, cocobolo rosewood handle, and brass bolsters with micarta inlays.
Looks like I was pretty lucky as I think the Cabela’s 119 exclusive is gorgeous... I just don’t care for the badging.
Hell of a "Blem",the untagged combo might give it that odd factor a little further down the road. As for the wife, hold on to her tight, when mine sees my eyes light up over a knife she tells me "wipe that goofy look off your face ya weirdo". Now the Buck band-aidso that's some good marketing right there.
Right!? I’m still trying to find the small imperfection on the edge that the sticker was pointing to, lol. I thought maybe it was the slight imperfection in the finish, but when I got back to the house we rented, the spots wiped right off.
I really like that it’s an oddball with no badging! Gives it some uniqueness.
This knife will definitely be sticking with me forever (assuming nothing bad happens to it). Hopefully it’ll bring back memories of the honeymoon every time I use it.
I’ll be hanging on to the wife too... We’ve only been married a few days but we’ve been together over 11 years. Any woman who has that kind of patience and can put up with me for that long is a keeper!
