I have always wanted a set of 8 steak knives that are also conversation pieces. Like Damascus. Not sure of a reputable seller of real Damascus. Interested to here thoughts on other options and where to purchase

How much are you looking to spend? because a steak knife made from a decent damascus steel is not inexpensive.
Also are you willing to sharpen? In all likelihood what you are looking for is going to not be serrated. Most higher end steak knives have a straight edge, and those do need sharpening from time to time.

That being said I would start with Shun. It's a good brand without breaking the bank. Also, while not exactly damascus, they have an etch that gives the look of damascus.

I’m willing to sharpen. I am by no means experienced but I would like corrosion resistance. I would like to avoid serrated if possible. I’ve never been confident in sharpening serrated blades.

Not all Damascus is stainless. It should also be noted that if you use ceramic plates, the edge is going to get dull really quickly.

Sorry didn’t answer how much I want to spend. I want them to be the last set I buy and could be generational knives so I’m willing to pay for quality 50-100 USD per knife

If money is no object Miyagi mizu sg2 look amazing. Japanese steak knives generally are beautiful and sharp.

Also have a look at the French manufacturer Forge de Laguiole.
Located in the French town of Laguiole (pronounced "lajol") they specialize in making old school knives, among which complete sets of steak knives in classic design, with good quality stainless steel blades and handles from various types of wood, natural cow horn, and even Micarta.

Some examples:

My formal steak knives are made by Furi Pro. Australian design, Japanese steel. Non-serrated and very reasonably priced.

Since people cut steak on a ceramic plate which will dull a knife in a heartbeat, for low maintenace serrated knives work great. They will still cut meat when the tips of the serrations are dull. I like Usinger sausage knives as steak knives, $1.69 or free with sausage :)

I can understand wanting this and nothing suggested so far appeals to me too much.
You could go custom. For example, PEU knives posts on this forum and he did a set boxed set of knives and forks recently.
If you look at his website, you will see that he works with damascus quite a bit.
There are quite a few makers who could do a good job of this, probably in the $800-$1200 range.

A good buddy here just recently had 3 different Damascus blades custom made for him, just this year too. Was a quick turnaround, picture updates, and really good looking, and he is very pleased with the custom work. I’ll tag him for you and perhaps he will chime in with some contact info.

I'm not sure he.does them but never hurts to ask! Phillip Patton made my knives out of Damasteel but he.makes his own Damascus too. He's on Instagram and has his own website you can peruse!!!!
I definitely recommend him! Fast, easy to work with n great communication

Emerson now makes a folding steak knife as well.
Plenty of custom makers will make them.

Be sure to use a wooden charger so you don’t dull a good knife.
