Stealth Hawk Cutting

Folks,

How much cutting ability does a Stealth Hawk have? Can it cut seaweed, rope, say clothesline, or fishing line. If so, that'd be way  Would it work as an auxiliary (backup is important) scuba knife?

Is it a good enough stabber that it would penetrate a person through a sweatshirt and t-shirt? Hope that will always be irrelevant to me, but would like to know before I buy.

Thanks in advance,

Alan

I don't know about many of the items you listed, but I can guarantee it cuts flesh just fine.

The day after getting it, I didn't respect the corners on those serrations, and like an idiot pulled my finger down the entire length of the blade. As a souvenir I had the skin ripped up on my index finger. The "edge" surface on the serrations and plain part isn't that sharp, but those serrations are most certainly functional.

Mine was B.A.T. equipped and as such would have probably been fantastic at emergency penetrations if needed.

Dear D.N.,

How would I know if a particular S.H. was B.A.T. equipped? Any idea if Busse can/will add the B.A.T. feature to a regular S.H. ?

Thanks,

Alan

The Stealth Hawk was designed more for penetration than cutting ability. It is light weight and has a non-magnetic signature. While it can cut, as Dark Nemesis indicates, it is not a great cutter. Its mission is simple and deadly.

As for the BAT grinds, a minimum number were ground that way out of the factory, primarily for the New York Custom Show last year. If the Stealth Hawk you are considering is an older vintage (prior to Oct of '01) it is probably not BAT tip equipped. There are far fewer BAT tip Stealth Hawks out there than those without the BAT.

Hope that helps!

Thanks D.N., and Contender,

Does anyone know if Busse is coming to the New York show in March this year?

Contender is on the money. The Stealth Hawk will cut flesh fairly well. We cut 17 pieces of 1/2" hemp rope with it, however, it WILL NOT cut monofilament at all! I do not recommend this blade for scuba divers unless they fully understand the knife's limitations. We do have a few of the BAT tips left in the shop. They are $225.00. For a standard Stealth Hawk give Shomertec a call at (360) 733-6214. . . I think that's their number. . . .if not, call the Busse shop tomorrow and we'll hook you up.

Thanks for your interest,

Jerry

Jerry, Contender, etc.,

Thanks for the advice.

Jerry, you make excellent knives. Obviously, the BAT tips are better than the regular Hawks or you wouldn't make them. In what way(s) do the BAT tipped Hawks perform better than the regular ones? Am debating whether to get a regular Hawk or a Bat tipped one.

Thanks - Alan

BAT tipped Stealth Hawks are better penetrators and have a lot of handwork involved as opposed to being totally machined, like the regular ones. Either one will serve you well, it's just a matter of personal preference.

Thanks,

Jerry
