I do long trips in South Africa. Particularly on Friday afternoons they trap like the Zimbabwe poachers. The joke is that they are collecting their beer money for the weekend. I generally don't race but it is all too easy to miss a speed sign whilst passing a rig coming into a town.

Are there any paints or gegaws that confuse the waves when just over a lower limit of Say 40mph by 10mph.

Radar, One note is that the machines that I have had used against me others in my office have challenged in court, and won.

They do have access to the right equipment and it is efficient.

The issue is arguing with a numbnut for an hour when you are late, then being faced with paying or going to the trouble of taking it to court in a forsaken town and winning. I don't have a racing car and recently got caught because an old bag came screaming past on the outer lane. I need @ 10-15km grace when slowing down coming into town and an idiot on my tail (actually won that through appealing to an onsite magistrate).

5 Fines (2 parking) & caused no (car) accidents in 26 years.

several things need to be discerned before you react.

Are radar detectors legal in your area? Many US places have made them naughty objects but the truth still is, they work. it is like a flashlight, the beam of light is detectable much further way than the light beam can see.

Second, jammers. This is usually highly illegal and not so good of an idea, but very easy to do. If you can find out the frequency on which your local police radar operates, then making a radio transmitter that can transmit signals on the precise frequency that simulates the reflected waves at say ten miles an hour, is something any first year tech school kid should be able to make. Another is a transmitter that blasts out the same frequency at rapidly varying modulation thus preventing the cops radar from getting a "lock" on your car. When speed was a big thing in my life, i used a jammer, I often got stopped after blasting thru a speed trap at 80 mph and the officers radar gun reading 33 mph. I never got a ticket either. Nowadays, I think a smart kid could hook up a radar detector to a jammer box and get the jammer to trigger on and off in relation to the presence of appropriate radar waves.

Jammers are not legal, detectors are frowned upon but difficult to do anything other than confiscate. If they catch you.

Doing 80mph in a 40mph zone and their system goes funny is going to get you a search and a higher fine for dangerous driving.

Prewarning appears to be the key. What system is the best for notification, that doesn't get triggered by the local cell phone mast? Something discrete.

The objective is to avoid speeding where there are riggs blocking speed signs etc. Open road is 75mph dropping to 40mph as you enter a town so it leaves considerable margin for error even if I automatically slow down in build up areas.

There's not much you can do about Radar. When radio energy hits a metal object like your car, the electrons in the metal react and emit a radio signal back. You can't change that. There are paints that can absorb some of the energy, but they're not pracitcal for automotive use.

Stealth is as much about shape as it is about exotic materials. The shape emits the energy in a dispersed pattern. But, unless you're willing to radically reshape your can, you can't apply that.

Given that jammers are out, detectors are your best option.

Lets just say that jammers can be made to be very difficult to find. My transmitter was hidden in a fog light. The radar detector was buried under the dash with the antenna located in the grill area. Instead of flashing a light, it wobbled the stereo for a few seconds, while doing that it would flash a much higher signal back to the radar unit that was basically gibberish, not allowing a firm lock. That car is now my sons, he has been stopped a couple of times, they figure something is up, but unless they want to impound the car, they are not going to find it.
