Where do I find one? Growing up I used to watch my dad skin and quarter his deer. He had some sort of SOG locking folder and a couple Old Timer multi folders. Before we went out to the shop he'd always pull this sharpener out and touch up his knife. I've got one of the lansky sharpeners and it's okay but I'd like to get him one since the rods on his have broken and gone missing over the years and might as well pick one up for myself.

I don't know - I googled "Steamboat super sharpener" and got 691,000 results in 0.38 seconds. Maybe that is the way to go?

^Thanks. I googled the same and I did find some online but didn't know if a chain hardware store carried them. Guess I'll have to order off the web.

There are a lot better sharpening stones/tools available, I recommend reading a bit more before getting a sharpmaker clone and realizing you could have done better.

I realize this. I'm not looking to shave my face with a sharpened knife but I do want it to pop hairs off my arm like that one did and I found them for under 30 bones. What would you suggest Jason B. I see your avatar so I assume you've tried quite a few combos
EDIT: I now see you do this for a living so trust your knowledge.

Shaving your face is for straight razors and ultra high grit polishing stones ;) it's possible to take a pocket knife to that level but we"ll keep it a bit more practical in this context.

Devices like you are inquiring about do a okay job of maintaining sharpness but fall short when it comes to setting bevels, fixing damage, or anything but very basic maintenance. Large and FLAT bench stones offer greater control and sharpening ability along with a very wide range of grits to suite your needs.

You can get some quality stones in the $30 range but your still only getting a $30 stone. I wish all the stones in my avatar were $30 and less.

My recommendation for stones would go to the Shapton Pro 1000 and 5000 grit stones. They are premium quality stones and some that I use daily for mine and my customers blades.

By chance I finally found one. A guy that made my custom knife recommended it and I could never find it until I went into a knife store in Huntsville, AL.

I love my steamboat, it's only good for touch up on an undamaged edge, but it works great if you use your knife for work like me. As a contractor cutting lumber straps, sharpening thick carpenter pencils, opening boxes and on occasion heavy wood cutting on sometimes very hard oak or hardwoods. So I have to maintain a good (almost razor sharp) working edge. I touch up my current work knife which is a ZT 0350bw daily with the little steamboat that can.

Did you find a Steamboat Super Sharpener? I'm the one who makes them. My dad started the business in '74 in Indiana. If you're still looking for one I'll try to find a dealer in your area but one way or another I'll make sure you get one. They retail for $20-$25.00. You can call me @ 800-321-3458. Ben

Ok, knowing that it's a member here makes it that much cooler.
S Steamboat , what's the story?
Did your dad develop the Steamboat?
Seems to pre-date the Sharpmaker but this is the first I've heard of it.

Gents, in fairness to those who pay for the privilege of advertising their products and services on this site, this thread must be closed. That said, member Steamboat left his business phone number above, so feel free to contact him should you choose to. If, (and I'm not saying he should), the member decides to change his membership level to the appropriate category, the matter can be revisited.

Steamboat has been contacted by PM to advise him of forum regulations in this regard.

Thanks for understanding.
