Hi folks, this is a beasty of a folder, and a bit on the heavy side, one of these days I'll pick up a scale
this probably could benefit from some removal of the Ti below the sides of the scales, but, it reminds you it's strong too.
Knife closed measures about 5" with a lanyard hole set into the back spacer, it's nice that it's below the level of the scales so as not to interrupt the flow or grip of the handle.
The 4mm thick S35vn blade measures at 3.6" long with it being at about 1 1/2" at it's widest near the handle, the blade did show a little magnetic properties as it grabbed my ruler. The blade needed sharpened BUT to Stedemon I would think when new it was quite sharp as it only took a few swipes on an ultrafine Spyderco stone to bring it back to a razor edge again. This is second hand to me, and I'm not sure of it's heritage beyond that so it may have passed through several hands before reaching my doorsteps. Speaking of edges, the measurement at the shoulder of the edge bevel is about .023" so it's ground down fairly thin, this will cut.
The detent, she's strong, very tight so when the flipper finally moves the blade comes out with authority and when closing, the bearing pivot is very smooth and the blade is 'sucked' into the handle securely via the detent as well.
The handle is a bit thicker than 1/2" and a little more than that if you include the fluted carbon fiber insert, making this a substantial folder that you can grip tightly without it twisting in hand or being too thin that it isn't comfortable.
The clip, I know there is controversy over the use of the bearing in the clip, I'll not dwell on that here as for me it works, but could probably be a little stronger, but the weight of the knife actually helps keep it in pocket. I did add a lanyard and being longer I can loop it around my belt or belt loop if I need it more secure.
Right now my feelings are, man this is big! I don't know if I will hang onto it long, but I do like the action and it's ability to slice is amazing. I'll carry a few days and see where that leads me.
In the mean time here are some images of the knife, appears that it has taken a tumble at one point as the lock bar along the edge has some gouges in there, very minor but there just the same.
One thing that I will most likely be doing is to take the crisp edges off of the lockbar cutout as well as the shelf that is exposed when the lock bar is engaged, they are just a bit on the uncomfortable side of things. Also I may try to add some texture to the side of the lock bar where you press to release the blade, that is a little too smooth and could do with some jimping there maybe.
fluted carbon fiber, appears to be glued into place, makes a nice addition to the grip
The clip is actually pretty cool just the same
Nice knife, blade is ground even and flat and tapers both towards the point as well as down to the edge, nicely done Stedemon!
