i wondering what to choose all the knives in the same price range so i ask you what do think is the best slicer and best all rounder/edc

spyderco manix cpm s110v

I love ZDP-189 and my Endura is a regular EDC blade. It cuts like a laser, but needs a touch up regularly so you don't have to spend an hour getting it back. If I use the Endura often during the week, I'll strop it or touch up on the SM. If you run it where it won't cut paper and just rips it....you will be annoyed bringing it back to life.

But....I would get the Manix.....if that makes any sense. :)
 
Manix. Strongest lock, ambidextrous, best ergos, best steel. ZDP-189 is close, but I give the "edge" to S110V.
 
My preference is Manix > Blur > Endura.

Manix is just the right size for me. The Blur is as well but I don't like assisted knives. (I do have an unassisted Blur and it flips well) And lastly the Endura for me, only because it's a little big for my EDC preference. All great knives though, you can't go wrong.

Me big concern is the handle frn is like volax it's plastic I know s110v is the better steel but frn is a big name for a plastic
 
Spyderco's FRCP is very stout. What you could do, is buy the S110V lw manix, buy a cheap g10 user manix off the exchange, and switch the blades out and make a frankenmanix g10 w/ S110V.

This ^! This is exactly what I am doing. I have the s110v, now looking for a cheap manix 2. missed the $65 one the other day by minutes...

I wouldn't say that S110V is a better steel than ZDP-189, just different. I personally like ZDP a lot, it's not the chip risk some people make it out to be and it's not that difficult to touch up as long as you're diligent.

And in defense of FRN, I too dislike plastic, but I don't mind FRN. It's a bit more pliable and "warm" feeling to other plastics.

I have not yet, partly because I have reservations about the steel and partly because I have enough high carbide steels to satiate my curiosity at the moment.

Personally, in that price range, my choice would be a Stretch in ZDP over all 3 of those.

Based on steel alone, Crucible's CPM S110V would be my choice.

Having owned a blur, a manix 2, and an endura, here's a little chart for you based on my opinions and experiences.

Blur
Pros:
KAI does a wonderful job with elmax
Decent ergos
Very grippy with the inserts.
Ramped thumbstuds--so much better that any other type of stud
Can be deassisted and works well that way

Cons:
Thumbstuds--Ramped are the best version of thumbstuds, but I prefer holes and flippers
Metal handles--cold in the winter, hot in the summer.
Recurve--can be a pain to sharpen depending on your sharpening method.
Linerlock--My least favorite lock
Assisted--a solution for a problem that doesn't exist
Right hand only clip

Endura
Pros:
Good ergos
ZDP-189 is one of my favorite steels, I have two spydies in it myself
Ambidextrous with the back lock.
Spydie hole
Ambidextrous clip

Cons:
Size--larger than the other two
Backlock--though ambidextrous, not the strongest lock, and has been known to develop vertical blade play from what I've heard

Manix 2
Pros:
Best ergos of the bunch
S110V is supposed to be a great steel
Ball bearing lock--one of the strongest locks in the biz and ambidextrous
Best blade shape (again, IMO)
Spydie hole

Cons:
BBL is very stiff when new
Jimping out the wazoo--enough to please the guys in W&C

I gave the blur to my 16 year old cousin and the Endura to his 20 year old brother. My endura was the waved sort and the blur the desert tan. The manix 2 is my favorite of what I own. its the foliage green CTS-XHP sprint not the 110v.
 
The Blur is a great knife, I love it. I also really like the Endura and the Manix2 so this is a harder choice. Based on the knives you have to choose from I would get the Endura in ZDP. Why? Because the knife is very slim from most dimensions, has a large cutting edge, and carries very slim in your pocket.
 
I have had a manix is M4 and a saber ground endura so my experience is a little different, but I would suggest the Endura. (I don't include the Blur for this comparasion because I have no exp. with this design and thus cannot weight in on it)

The Manix overall seems better for heavy cutting jobs and if you're looking for something that slices better that I'd have to say blade geometry is going to win out against steel 9/10ths of the time. (This being said I am assuming this is for the FFG endura, not saber grind) Both 110v and ZDP are fantastic steels and will most certainly do whatever you throw at them so long as you take care of them so that I leave as dealer's choice.

For ergonomics the endura is significantly thinner so if you have large hands the manix might be a better choice. It also carries a little better in pockets that aren't dedicated to knife carry (I happen to carry my phone and knife in the same pocket so something that doesn't explode my pocket is always nice)

Do you think the contego is a good knife? Because I think get one and I don't what to get 581 or the contego
