I was a member on this forum for years back in the early 2000s, but I can't find the original username. Anyway, forgive my "newb" look here.

I had a SR and Busse knives in that day and loved them. I kept a Howling Rat as a user and just love that knife...Maybe it's the quarantine, but I've been thinking of getting another knife and there are so many amazing knife makers now.

One thing I loved about my SR is how ridiculously strong the steel is. I've had other knives not break, but bend, and lose their sharpness easily. I'm very curious of the Fiddleback knives for this styling and EDC size. How does their steel compare to the Busse/SR family? If not that, are there comparable knives in the Busse/SR family in terms of looks? I had a Game Warden once and love that knife, but it was small -- so but maybe a bit longer, like 4-5". Anyway, thanks for reading!

You could also try something from CPK -- Carothers Performance Knives. They have a subforum here. They use 3V steel with an excellent, proprietary heat treat. Awesome fit and finish and design. Survive uses the same steel and heat treat. They have had some problems with delivering long-ordered knives; but the knives are excellent and often show up on the for-sale forum.

Knife Research has some models in Vanadis 4V, also an excellent steel and great knives. Other makers do, too.

Careful... it's a slippery slope:D.
Jeez I'll say LOL

in November, after close to a decade of not buying new knives, I started checking out what was new. Became fascinated again.

Decided "I'll just buy this one.beater knife.for $80"

And here I am: 5 months later, and around $3000 less in my pocket

Haha, that's my concern...Interesting, these knives have really gone up in price! I purchased a Game Warden for maybe $250 10 years ago and I see they're in the $500s now. That's definitely more than I'd like to spend on a quality EDC.

I'm mostly curious about knives that don't quite have that "operator" look/utility...Just want something for camping, etc -- don't want to raise eyebrows either. The Busse Custom has some knives with gorgeous handles, but they appear a fortune.

Yeah the prices have definitely jumped since I've returned to the hobby

But the quality has gone up too I think. Much better steel available these days

Well, it looks like you're playing catch-up pretty well. Got a ways to go, though, before you reach our level of indebtedness.
