Steel consistency question for my Manix

I just noticed that on the edge of my large Manix that there is about a 1/2" section that is a slightly lighter shade than the rest of the edge. It's on the exact same part on it's opposite side. It is a very slight difference and is harder to notice in different lights. Just wondering if this is normal or if it's anything to be concerned about.

How does it react when you cut things? Does it chip out, or act any differently than the rest of the edge?

Unfortunately, I've yet to really put it to work. I've just been shaving my arms and attacking paper.

It's crying out to you, "Please use me, I'm a beast! I must cut something! It is my mission in life to cut things and be used hard!". Seriously, until you use I don't think you'll find out if it's an issue or not. If you are worried about not having the factory sharpness you can always get in sharpened by Spyderco for free, or better yet, learn to sharpen it yourself so you are more willing to use it like it was designed. It is very satisfying to put a really nice edge on a knife yourself. I think now I use my knives so I can sharpen them, instead of sharpening them so that I can use them. It's an obsession, just ask my wife.

I have a Sharpmaker and have no problems making a knife shave. I'm not even really all that concerned about it, I just wanted to know if this is some kind of obvious issue. If it's something that we can only tell by using it, then I just may have the difficult task of cutting the hell out of something- poor me.
