I'm working on a side project for a friend. He's working on steel plate armor and has asked me to make him some chasing tools. This is a first for me, and my question is about steel selection. I was just going to just use O1, as I am quite familiar with it and have plenty of round rod of the correct thickness on hand (it's going to be pretty beefy because of what he's working on. probably 3/8" or 1/2"). Any reason I should consider a different steel?

O-1 would have been my first suggestion. Lots of other steels would work, 5160, S-7, etc., but for simplicity and availability ... O-1 is the champ.
