I am new at knifemaking and wanting to learn all i can.I work with a guy that wants to get into the knifethrowing sport and has ask me to make some knives for him and his son.Does anyone know where i might find some info on making these,or what type of steel is best. Thanks for any help.

I think a high carbon steel like 1095 or O1 would probably be great for making throwers. I have some stainless throwers, and they work great too, though. Keep 'em thick and simple, and don't drill (big) holes in them!

There's tons of information on knife making on the knife maker's forum Here

I would just google for pics-- or check out the various knife selling websites

I say just be inventive, because you can stick anything with a point on it.

I like throwers that are balanced at the blade-handle junction, and I also like throwers that are blade-heavy. Throwers that are meant to be thrown by the blade should have heavy handles.

I guess I'm trying to say I like throwers whose balance point is forward of where you are supposed to hold it.

It is not good to copy someones design. Just find some steel and forge or grind a point on it and learn how to heat treat it. Proper heat treat is very important in a throwing knife. You should spend some time learning about throwing knives and how to throw them before trying to make one. You are doing your customer and yourself a disservice by not knowing what goes into a good throwing knife.
I hope that you would know how to skin wild game before trying to make a skinning knife.

Thanks for the help and advice guys, but never would i copy anothers design, just looking at others work gives one an idea of where to start. Thanks again
