I have seen aluminum handles with replaceable steel inserts and of course Ti frame locks with steel inserts or liners. Are there any stainless steel frame locks with a replaceable steel insert? Why spend the extra cash on Ti frame lock and put a stainless steel insert//liner when you could use a stainless steel frame and put a replaceable insert on it?

why would you need a steel insert with a steel frame. It would take forever to wear it out

Does Ti really wear out that much faster that manufacturers feel a need to put in an insert? I understand with aluminum but why not have that added since of comfort on a stainless frame lock?

Well since CRK, Strider, hinderer dont use them on any of their knives and they last forever I dont see it as necessary. I know lionsteel uses it on both aluminum and Ti versions of their knives but only the aluminum really needs it. A steel insert on a steel frame would be a bit redundant in my eyes.

The biggest pro for inserts is that, if the titanium wears out, you need to replace the whole locking side. Whereas with an insert, you just have one sma piece to change. Since most Ti framelocks are 300$+, I like the added security.

They don't last forever. A quick search will turn up CRK owners at least who after a number of years (I remember 10 or so being the most common) having to send it in to be refit due to wear. A decade is a good length of use and of course the lifespan will vary based on how much you use it, but that's hardly forever.

well 10+years can seem like forever :p with CRK offering a spa treatment for a fee and getting another 10 years out of the same knife is way more then enough.
