Steel Heart Question

I recently won a HHFSH on ebay and am awaiting it's arrival. Anyway I have a couple of questions as this is my first foray into Busse land having previously bought knives from the Swamp. What is the difference between HOGFSH and HHFSH? Is there a difference? Also the one I won on ebay was advertised as a NASA blade. What's the deal with that? How is it different from non-NASA ones and what on earth (or not on earth) do astronauts do with a SH? I intend to use this to chop and split firewood etc - how will it compare to my Ratweiler and RatMastiff? Any help and comments most appreciated. Lastly I'm a Scot, whisky lover and very partial to Islay single malts, Ardbeg in particular (the King of Whiskies in my opinion) and can't work out why all you Busse guys rave about Johnny Walker irrespective of the label's colour. Do you have to drink the stuff to be a Hog? Looking forward to your replies. Slainte.

Greetings!

The HHFSH is a special run made for the Company Store. It is essentially a visible sabre grind FSH, with blade width advertised at .270 (standard FSH = .250 width). This is the blade engraved on the newer Busse as the logo FSH.

The HOGFSH is a 5/16ths stock FSH with a flat primary grind (some will argue that point) and available in FSH color / handle combos - one of my favorite Busse.

The NASA designation is a rumor started here to differentiate the limited number of HH that made it out without logos... sort of an inside joke/designation is my understanding. I don't think they really were ordered/used by NASA - but Jerry can comment there.

Here is a pic of a few Steel Hearts. The HH is on the far right, HOGFSH second from right.

Another shot - HH second from top, HOGFSH third and fourth from top (HOGFSHLE fourth from top)

Hope that helps!

rat30 pretty much has it right, the hh was thicker, and the NASA model was sterile as most government models are. i believe there were only about 12 or so NASA's. they were supposed to be returned to correct the mistake but somehow this request was ignored and they disappeared from this planet?

See there, NASA HH - thick and rare - just like my steak! :D

Wow - talk about quick service guys. Now if only the postman would work that quickly and bring me my HH. Very impressive photos there Rat-30, nice collection. I didn't know how rare these non-logo NASA models were as most of my SRKW knives don't have logos at all. Are the logos more common on Busse's? Anyway the rarity is a moot point as I intend to use mine as it looks like it would be a good chopper / splitter. I also like the sabre grinds from my experience with my RW and RM. Have any of you guys noticed any difference in chopping / splitting between the flat and sabre grinds on the FSHs? Thanks again for the info.
