Steel Heart sheath

'Evening, guys & gals...I'm not a regular on this particular Forum but have been around before. My knowledge of Busse Combat Knives is limited...but I do like what I've seen and learned.

Anyway, I recently acquired a Steel Heart. Up to this time I was not familiar with the term "Zero Tolerance". I did search back through this Forum's archives and now have sort of an idea what ZT refers to...but not a complete understanding.

I am thinking it means the blade is 3/16" thick, not coated, has some unusual grinds and was made from scrap INFI.

Is this what ZT means?

Also have a question re the sheath that came with this knife. I've attached a couple of pictures of the SH and one of the sheath. Is this the sheath that originally shipped with this knife? I am asking because, although the SH is almost flawless, this sheath sucks. You almost need to clamp it in a vise and use both hands to remove the knife!

Either way, I am going to need a different sheath. Will Busse Combat make one for me?

You got it all but the scrap INFI thing. It was bar stock INFI that was incorrectly ground down to a uniform 3/16" rather than 1/4". Sheaths were not standard with them as I recall.

That looks like a BuyBrown sheath. Dave mainly uses a friction fit for retention, but I am surprised it is as tight as you say. Do you want a Kydex sheath or leather? There are any number of folks here will do either. For kydex the is Buy Brown, Okuden, Andrew Lynch and myself. If you want leather then you could contact Leatherman, Mt. Mike or myself. There are samples of all of our work in the archive. If any of us can help you please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Don, Heh Progunner got in there before I did, he's right on the money, no sheaths were offered with the ZT's. Also Zero Tolerance refers to the Zero grind, meaning that there is no bevel ground on the edge, the grind is constant to the edge. Makes for a scary sharp knife.
As far as the sheath goes, I've heard of some people loosening kydex sheaths, maybe one will chime in.

If that is David's work, he might be willing to loosen it up for you if that is your only complaint about the sheath.

That clears up something else I was wondering about...why this knife is soooooooo much sharper than my CG SJ.

I have just the sheath for that knife, send it to me...:D

Don, Welcome to the INFI Lounge! That's one of the best sheaths money can buy. It's tight so a green beret or seal can carry it upsidedown on his web gear with out fear of his knife falling out. I hope you get it fixed to your specifications because, as you'll soon find out, the Busse/Brown combo is highly envied around here. Congrats on your good luck finding one!!!

Hi Everybody (best Dr. Nick impresiion)
Thanks for all the complements:D

No on to the problem at hand. Don send me an e-mail & we can fix you up for free :D

What happens some time is that people switch sheaths around with out knowing that almost all Busse's well any semi- or custom knives have slight differances in grinds & bevels. Granted the Busse's are extreamly close now a days, but the E-series had a few variances especially the ZT's.
So bottom line is I choose to make my sheaths a friction fit rather than the typical handle grab tecnique because it keeps the blade from rattling around and allows you to copletely grip the handle with no obstructions when drawing the knife.

Any how send me a E-mail & we will fix you up.

My "seal days" are well behind me :) However, this makes perfectly good sense. I am looking at this sheath in a new light now. Likely I am going to keep this one and have a leather one made.

If you keep it, through use it will slightly loosen. I've had a BuyBrown sheath for my AD for going on a year and a half now. I've carried it almost everyday, and it is just starting to loosen. I'm thinking of taking the hairdryer to it.

i had the same qualms with my buy brown coot sheath when i first got it, but i found that if you push the knife into the sheath, and draw it out quickly (push/pull FAST) it comes out without any problem. if you have a loose fitting belt, you might end up pulling your pants down a bit, but it worked out fine for me when i was carrying it.

kinda breaks the kydex seal to the knife, and seperates the two sides apart for easier withdrawal...
