Okay, I'm a little confused about the early steel hearts..... (standard configurations)
SH1s....
Were they all bird beaks?
None were ever made in INFI, right?
Which steels were used (A2 and ATS34?) and which is rarest?
When did the curve grind stop and the straight grind start, and which is rarer?
SH2s....
Any idea how many birds beaks were done? (Were they all A2?)
Were only INFI and A2, right?
.
Is there anything else I should know?
Thanks for the help!

SH1s....
Were they all bird beaks? - YES
None were ever made in INFI, right? - CORRECT
Which steels were used (A2 and ATS34?) and which is rarest? - I BELIEVE ONLY ATS-34, BUT I'M NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE.
When did the curve grind stop and the straight grind start, and which is rarer? - I DON'T KNOW.

SH2s....
Any idea how many birds beaks were done? (Were they all A2?) - ALL WERE A2 AS FAR AS I KNOW; I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY.
Were only INFI and A2, right? - YES

There is a fair bit of confusion exactly when the change from A2 to INFI occurred in the SH2's. From what I have gathered the smooth micarta grips were first, and apparently some of these knives were made from INFI (if anyone knows better, please correct me).

Most people probably think SH2's were made in 2 thicknesses, 1/4" and 5/16", but according to an earlier thread Jerry had also used 9/32" INFI (I have one that is).

When I first discovered Busse knives, the SH2 and SHBM were current models, and are still some of my favorites.

Gene, thanks! Good to know. From an Ohioan too!
Let me know which part of the state your from. Thanks.

That deep dish grind line you see on the SH1's is only on that generation. When the SH2 came out it had a slight curve, but never to have that nice half moon shape.

One interesting thing about the BBSH2's is the blade profile. It seems that somewhere in the production time it changed, to the more familiar less pointy profile. I've seen them referred to as the "early" and "late" production blade styles. Theres also thick and thin stock as well, mines near 5/16ths, and I've seen 1/4" versions as well.

Heres a pic showing the different profile of the BBSH2 and the half moon SHSH's

I don't know about the Timeline but what I do know is that WalkingMan must stop his incesant posting in the general forum promoting the Battlemistress. I am going to fire off a scud to his home. It will be bad enough having to share with the regulars. STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Well, I guess since you don't have any 1/300s you wouldn't know that the older BMs have an advanced antimissile guidance system.
Fire away! :p
