Well, I called Crucible and they have a minimum order of $75. 1/8x1.5x24" is like 33 and 1/4x2x36" of A2 is about $43, but I simply don't need that much steel!!! K&G has D2 1/8x6x12 for $28. That is twice the amount of steel for $5 less...what is the difference between these steels? Mill run vs Precision ground?? Also, I have a hacksaw..how hard is D2 to hacksaw or should I take it to my local machinist and cut it with a bandsaw? I think I will go with the K&G stuff and use the bandsaw on it.
Second question. On my photopoint site, I have the recurved ronin that I have to make again, but w/o recurves in the edges...oops! I am looking for a steel to use for it for stock removal, but the catch is I need a piece 3/16" or 1/4" thick, almost 2" wide due to the curved handle and about 12" long. What steel can i get in these sizes that is good quality? i was using O-1, but I don't have any left in that thickness. Most supply places have steel in 1.5" wide, some in 1.75" wide, which might be wide enough. Any ideas?? Anyone have any steel in this size they will be willing to sell?? Thanks guys!
last question for now. Crucible sells L6, 3/16" thick and 91" long. Is this L6 from saw blades where you have to worry bout the grain direction or regular L6?? Thanks!!!!
