The handle on these khukuris is made of synthetic "alternate ivory" - stuff I hand carried over to Nepal on my trip. When TB made these, he also addressed another issue that we brought up with him - that of buttcaps digging into your hands. I asked him to come up with a way to solve that problem. Well, on these khukuris, the buttcap is slightly "angled" so that for right-handed users, the upper tip of the buttcap angles to the left and into the crook of your hand. The upshot is that it DOES NOT DIG into your hand.

The blade on this khukuri is a standard SN1 blade, but with scrolling and inlay on the blade ("sword of shiva pattern"). Chakmak and Karda are deer-horn. Cost is $99.00 delivered for US customers. Send payment via paypal or via check or money order.

This khukuri is indeed a thayng of beauty! Peter Frye (master knife maker here in VA) showed me one when I stopped by his place to pick up a "balance" khukuri. He polished up the handle and it really did look like ivory--the lines were there and the texture was not synthetic at all. He said it was the most comfortable khukuri handle he had ever felt, and I could understand why. The slightly rotated butt was an excellent design that gave more ease of movement in the right hand. It felt so good that it didn't take long to get used to how it looked.

I was expecting use of the left hand to feel worse than terrible, but it wasn't objectionable at all, considering it was designed for the right hand. But it is definitely not an only khukuri for the southpaw.

The finish on the blade was stunning and the chakma and karda handles made an excellent matched set with the big knife handle. This is a very special outfit, but it the photo doesn't show how well it handles. It's way better than its good looks.
