I've been following the Buck Blade Steel thread and enjoying the discussion and comparisons of the various steels. My favorite deer hunting knife has been the Buck 118 for several years and as such I've been accumulating them in different steels, both standard issue and SFO. At this point I have one each in 440C, 425MOD, 5160, and now D-2. I had one in 420HC but gifted it to a hunting buddy several weeks ago (I will get another at some point in time). I would like to know if any of the Buck historians here have any idea of all the steels used in the past for this model (118) - if there was a S30V or a CPM154, etc., I would like to try and find them. Thanks, OH

From top to bottom: 440C, 425MOD, 420HC, 5160.

Hunter, you ask a good question. I'm not sure if this model was done in ATS-34, BG 42 or S30V like Buck's 119. I hope someone who visits this forum will see this topic and has one to help you out. DM

SKBlades needs to have one made with S90V sandwiched between CPM-154 :D

I don't have a 118 yet. That brass 5160 model looks nice.

Don't recall any other steel.

There are some other variations of D2 118s though--this from the archives. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/991196-118-D2-Build-Out-Personal-pics

Grey wood with brass is nice.

Well then, that means I must have all the blade steels used in the model 118 - very good. Thanks for the links to other handle materials - think I will get a new 118 in 420HC in the cocobolo handle - that will add another variation to my 118 collection. Regards, OH
