Just got my Spyderco Native III in the mail today..notice it didn't have steel liners, do think this makes it a lesser knife with a inferior handle?

Short answer: No.

Longer question: Why would it? What do steel liners contribute to the knife in your mind?

I guess i thought the steel liners added strength in the handle..but then agian i am no engineer..

They do add a certain amount of rigidity, but on a FRN knife you're only going to get so much. Spyderco's FRN has +30% nylon in it. Not cheap stuff by any means.

If you ever try some of their Salt series knives you'll notice they don't have liners either. Most of the time this reduced the cost of the knife and makes it noticeably thinner. Great for IWB carry or when you just want a light knife.

Nope!

Oddly enough, the blade will break before the handle goes. A forum member here, a couple of years back, thought the action on his Native III was too tight (they are pretty stiff by the way) and decided to stick the blade in a vise and push the handle side to side to loosen the pivot. Long story short, the FRN handle survived just fine. The blade, not so much.;)
