Hi fokes, I'm thinking of buying a stockman, I've had most us and german brands but never a buck, I do own several buck knives but no slippies. Do any of the new models still have steel pivot pins? I'm just wanting a solid user, in general how is the spring action, chance of blade play etc. I know If there slip joints are anything like there lock backs, there some pretty rugged knives:thumbup:

Yes, the pins are steel on the 300 series. I can also say that it is extremely rare that we get one in warranty that has a broken pin. If something is going to give it usually is not the pin. Most of what we get these days are 300 series from the 70's with blades that are just plain worn out. Those are the knives that I wish could tell their story! :)

Thank you Joe! Yea I've never had a pin wear out or break, but The cammillus and other knives I've had that had steel pins seemed sturdier, took on less wobble than others, could just be my imagination though. I think the next slippie that I buy will be a buck, they just look like there meant for work, and if they only need a new blade or two in 30 some odd years that says alot for both knife and user, I would like to here them talk as well:thumbup::thumbup:
