Steel prep before grip install

Got a Spyderco Mule coming in K294, just for experimentation. I also got their stock grips, was out of patience by that time.

K294 rusts. Not a problem for the blade, but I find myself asking if it is a good idea to maybe put Renaissance Wax, maybe grease, or something else between the G10 and the steel tang so I don't have a rust issue too soon and in a hidden place where it might not be discovered until too late. Thought about coating the tang with glue like contact adhesive and gluing the scales on, but I might actually change my mind someday and want or need to change them.

Maybe just coat the mating surfaces with Rustoleum?

The blade will be used enough that rust won't be an issue, but I might lose track of how long it has been since the scales have been off, and we don't need the rust getting too bad before it's found.

I live in FL about 800' from the Gulf, so we do have humidity.

Am I overthinking this?

Thanks in advance.

A light film of Vaseline probably would work fine, or BreakFree CLP. I put Halpern grips on my Mule (20CV) and they fit very tight.

I use Vaseline on my guns when they are stored, just because it is right here and the price is right. Probably something better. But it keeps rust off.

Did not connect the dots about using it under knife scales. When I figure out when to use it, I'll post here. Might be a while, though, before it has been on long enough to say how effective it is.
