steel question please help

Nothing special about it, another common stainless steel, most people say its on par with 440.

Victorinox uses it. It's comparable to 440A, AUS 6 and 420.

IMO, proper heat treatment and edge geometry is more important.

It seems to be cleaner and finer grained than 440a.

Do a search. I remember someone starting a thread about the same knife and steel in January.

Whilst I am reluctant to recommend steels such as AUS6 or 440A/B there are 2 steels in this range I do recommend when properly heat treated and they are 12C27 and AUS8 with preferance for the latter. But if you were comparing it with 440C, AUS10, VG10, N690 then no dice as these are premium cutlery steels IMO and before anyone jumps on my back yes! There are others and steels such as D2 and S30V are in my view the Super Steels.

If done right, its a very clean stainless steel. Not much to it, not much wrong with it. Not the greatest in edgeholding, but takes a very good edge. There are a lot of people among the "knife folks" that are quite partial to it. Do a search, there was a thread not to long ago, where many members of this forum spoke quite well of it. Personally, I like it quite a bit. No frills, but a solid blade steel.
