steel question ?

I was looking at the ZT 600 (RJ Martin) and noticed it was in a steel I was not familiar with called B75P. it says this is a powered version of BG42. My understanding is BG42 is basically 154CM.

Does this mean that B75P and CPM 154 (powered ver. of 154CM) are basically the same thing?

Bg 42 has more carbon and more vanadium than 154, and holds a better edge in my experience. Ats34 and 154 are basically identical but bg42 is a step up

B75P and BG42 look very similar, as noted 154cm has less carbon and less vanadium. In a spec sheet drag race B75P will have a little bit better wear resistance than 154CM, but even if the performance is the same it's really of very little consequence as 154CM is a very good performing steel, especially the powdered metal product.

Steel composition comparison

154CM and CPM-154 have the same composition. B75P and BG42 are very similar to each other, but a bit different from 154CM. The biggest differences are the amount of vanadium (higher levels in B75P and BG42) and silicon (higher levels in 154CM).
