Steel Question???

No M2 is not Stainless. It is a high speed tool steel that will rust. It is also the greatest knife steel I have found. It is fairly easy to sharpen, Holds an edge better than almost anything I have found and does not have the problems that S30V has (chipping, Hard to sharpen). My wish is that there were more knives out there using M2. Steven

While I don't have M2 knives I don't understand the "easier to sharpen " than S30V. While M2 has less V it has W which forms very hard carbides .I also suspect that most 'Chipping" problems with S30V are due to poor HT....In any case M2 is certainly not stainless steel.

M2, while not stainless is an awesome knife steel. I personally like it better than S30V. I have never had a problem with any of my S30V knives chipping though. M2 seems to sharpen easier, take a keener edge and hold it just as long if not longer.

This is all just personal experience speaking though, I don't have anything scientific to back up my claims.
