Steel "Scales" as EDC's.

I just ordered a few Byrds and I'm already thinking I need a Spyderco with metal scales (handles). The models I ordered were both G10 handles.

I would like to know the opinion of SYPDERCO owners... are the models with the metal handles noticeably more heavy for EDC?

I have never carried a SPYDERCO with metal handles, but I can see one in my future...

Advantages and disadvantages?

Steel handles are heavy, and are so soft that they scratch at the drop of a hat. The only one I carry is a Lava, and that in spite the handle material.

I like SS handles. They feel really solid. The only thing I don't like is pinned construction. The weight is not an issue for me.

I kinda like the way stainless wears; the scratches add character! I like stainless for smaller knives, but on a bigger fella like the Endura or Police, I think I'd go with something else... I've thought about getting a bigger folder in all stainless, and shelling out extra coin for some custom engraving (it would look super-cool,) but have yet to make that leap.

Good luck!

If you like heavier and slicker, steel is for you.

I have a few steel Spydies (Police, Endura), and they have a certain aesthetic appeal, but heavy and slick is not generally a good trait in an EDC knife.
