Steel source for custom knife

I can find many blacksmiths near us and I am contemplating of ordering a custom knife from them but I want something that is comparable to the durability, strength and edge holding capability of those popular steels like SR101,SR77,1095,D2 and INFI. Now, I am not sure where to get such steels, do I need to buy utilities like a hammer for instance and use its steel?

TIA

You'd probably get better answers if you posted this in the Knifemaker's Discussion area. I know you're not looking for a maker since you'll be getting it from a local blacksmith, but I'm pretty sure some of the guys there make knives/tomahawks/etc. from non-traditional steel sources and could point you in the right direction.

Jantz supply has a decent selection of round and flat stock. I know some of the steels have insanely amazing high HRC, edge retention, workability etc. The support line is also great and I've had great experiences working with them. Best of luck on your endeavors!
