I'm looking for a good steel striker to practice traditional flint and steel fire starting. Is there a major difference in the quality between strikers? Is there someone on the forums that offers good ones?

Matt of ML Knives makes some great strikers

I have made a few. I just harden mine, I know Matt hardens and tempers them. The ones I have made are much thinner than his and work great without tempering, but Matt's steels do throw crazy sparks.

You could save yourself some money by breaking a flat file to about 3 or 4 inches long, grind one side smooth and use it as a steel with some flint. If you square the other side you can useit to scrape your ferro rod. The file part then would be handy to sharpen your axe or hatchet. Might even bevel one end and it can be sharpened to scrape and fuzz tinder. Just a thought. I do this myself although I use some homemade traditional strikers.
