Hey what's up everyone, currently I'm having a problem with my delica 4 the vg-10 steel is not sharpening at all it used to be razor sharp n I sharpened about a month ago and now it's very dull but won't sharpen on my stone any help? Also how is 154cm I just picked up my griptilian and curious how my edge will hold up...any suggestions on great edge retention

VG10 and 154CM are pretty comparable. Both are high end steels. Your problems with the delica probably aren't a steel problem, but more of an edge-geometry issue. VG-10 is great, because you can put a very thin edge on it and not worry about it chipping or dulling quickly. I'd say take the time to put a good 30-40 degree inclusive edge on it, and it should work really well.

When you are sharpening, you should grind it until you feel a burr appear on the other side. That's how you know you have gone far enough

Go to maintenance tinkering and embellishment forum, every aspect of sharpening that you can think of has been posted there.

How do you know the degrees? Can you post a picture please

I used to use a clamp system, but after a while I got used to it, and I just ballpark it when I am using a bench stone.

From what it sounds like, it will take a while to do, just go at a reasonably low angle and maintain it and put on a good movie. Keep the same angle and if you hold it up, you should be able to see the flat bit you are creating start to expand. When you are done, it should look like a perfectly flat plane.

I can post some pics when I get home tonight if you want, got nothing with me right now.
