steel type on KFF

I just picked up a CRKT KFf, the paperwork says aus6m but there is no steel marked on the blade. Anyway to tell if its actually the aus6 older version or the new one with aus4? Overall the knife wseems solid and the edge is reasonably sharp, there isn't any blade play either. All around I am satisfied with the knife but would like to know what steel is actually used on my model.
any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if there are any identifying marks on the KFF, but the new Zytel Kaspers have 420J2 blades, so it may be somewhat easier to tell the difference after some use. Their new 420 stuff is one or two points softer than the old AUS-6, so it may be possible to test the difference if you've got an old AUS-6 version somewhere. If you've got the metal handled Pro version, it's probably still AUS-8, because they seem not to be made anymore (at least, it's not on CRKT's website).

Maybe they've changed the boxes and you can tell that way? Sorry about the lack of help...

the AUS8 was only available on the pro models, & they have been disco'd a while now, at least a yr, i dont know if there is a way to tell just by looking between the '4 &'6. too bad imho they went to '4 the KFF was a pretty good one, my fav CRKT anyway, made me go buy a real crawford KFF.

i can live with AUS6 but '4 is just getting too soft for me, and i'm not a steel fanatic.

from what i find surfing it is aus6. I bought a ztel handled crawford/casper and found out it was 420j2 steel and got rid of it and bought a timberline med wortac which does have aus8 and is almost identical to the crawford zytel and built extremely well. You might check in to one of those i paid like $38 for it new and it was a great deal for the money and you do get aus8 steel!!!
