I looked and didn't find a previous thread on this topic. If you where one is, please post it.

My girlfriend introduced me to the Delica. Until I met her, I just ignored Spyderco knives because I didn't like how they look. Today, I love my Spyderco knives! And between us, we must have six or eight Delicas. I like the platform, but I'm over VG-10. It's a nice steel, but not my idea of a good EDC steel (your mileage may vary).

Is there some reason the Delica is never offered in Cruwear, S110V, or even M4? I'd really like one of those! Dragonfly, too, for that matter!

What do you guys think? Is it hopeless?

Hap40! :) Delica is out.. Dragonfly coming..

Super blue Delica..

ZDP-189 in the Dragonfly..

I'm sure there is more. Most are sprint runs, to my knowledge.

I got the HAP40. I got the Super Blue. Pretty sure she has the ZDP-189. Decent steels, but I would love an S110V Delica! :)

The Delica is made in Japan and uses Japanese steels. I have a Hap40 Delica and it is in my opinion the best Delica available.

Looks like you have it covered, for what was produced..

We never got a Cruwear PM2 either.. :/ (lots of other fun tho)

I love Super Blue and HAP40. Great steels if you ask me. I like VG-10, as well, but these boutique steels are leagues above it if we're talking straight edge retention. I'm not sure but I think they can also take a finer edge.

Yes, sprint runs! Thank you!

I'm a fan of edge retention. I don't have a lot of problems sharpening boutique steels, so I'm very interested in S110V and the like.

Also, as nice as the HAP40 is, she got it, not me. >.>

This was true until recently. The ATR that will be released sometime this year will be produced in Japan with s30v steel. This will open the floodgates for all kinds of requests. Personally I would love to see an M390/M4/cruwear/52100/3v Delica and Dragonfly :D

Yes hopefully this opens the door for more steel variety! :)

Also S35V for the Delica, Dragonfly, Manbug, etc.. family !
I really like this steel !

There is a smurf blue g-10 Delica in the works but it's been delayed as the cost of super gold steel was too expensive. Hopefully this project will be realised this year :)

The Mantra is very Delica-ish with M4 steel.

I've been looking at that one, actually. I don't mind the flipper and frame lock so much, but the titanium handle is going to be a lot heavier than the usual FRN; it's half an ounce, so not a huge deal. The blade is also a bit over three inches instead of a bit under three inches. Where I live currently, no big deal. Other places, well.... My biggest issue with the Mantra, aside from being able to find one, is the price. Ouch! Three times the price of a Delica! And I say that as a guy with a $400 knife in his pocket.

Honestly, there are reasons why I really like a Delica. I'd just like a choice of one of the high edge retention steels. I don't mean to whine or anything. But, my girlfriend used here Delica every day at work. She was the night "nurse" at the horse hospital and cut rope, twine, boxes, tape, bandages, etc. By the end of the week, her blade was a twig. I mean, you couldn't cut yourself with it (that's normal for VG-10). Plain edge, too; no serrations to help out at the end of the week. I put a lot of effort into keeping her work knife sharp enough to shave.

Another reason I like the Delica, well, two reasons. First, it fits in her pants pockets. I did not know this, but girl pants pockets are WAY shallower than guy pants pockets. No idea why. But, it limits the size knife she can carry (Mantra would not be a problem, but an 0300 is). The other reason is the FRN colors. She's currently on a thing where she gets her nails done to match her knife. I think that is awesome! So, I give her knives with colorful handles. The FRN Delicas rock in this regard.

I know other materials can take colors nicely, too. She's currently got a teal blue Leek in her pocket (yes, with matching nail polish) and she wants a shiny violet blue Ti Spine. She also has a purple Dragonfly that she loves and a pink Native and I lost track of what else. Anyway, she's a wonderful person and I like to make her smile. If that's a weakness, well then I'm proudly weak. :)

Hap40 is performing extremely well for me. Edge retention on par with m4 (possibly better) and extremely easy to sharpen. It has quickly become my favorite edc steel.

You sound like a lucky man! Be weak my friend, be proudly weak! [emoji106]

(Not that I think it's weak, at all)

Hey Lance,

I'm loving the way HAP40 sharpens. I also have a ZDP-189 and a Super Blue (OK, only the Super Blue is mine, she got the ZDP). Any sense of how the HAP40 compares to those?

I find hap40 sharpens a lot like superblue but shows much better edge retention. Good stuff!

HAP40 is outstanding! I can't recall the last time I was so impressed by a steel.
