I picked up this knife earlier today. Don't know a thing about the Steel Warrior series, I was hopping for some input from wiser men than myself. Is this genuine or is it a knock-off? Is this real damascus? It's quite dull looking on the bolsters. It's got torx construction, and comes apart. Also, it's stamped China on the reverse of the blade. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything about the knife except that Steel Warrior is an inexpensive brand and also made in China if I'm not mistaken. I don't think it would be cost effective for anyone to make a knock off.

Looks like a nice knife.

Steel Warrior has a habit of putting a little sticker on the blade that points to a Rockwell test dimple but I don't know if they do that with their Damascus blades. Did it have one of those stickers on the blade by any chance?

Thanks for the info! Nope, no sticker. I picked it up used and in pretty gross condition for seven dollars. Couldn’t even tell it was Damascus when I bought it. Reminded me of a knife my grandpa had when I was a kid. So I cleaned it up a little and posted it. Do they do any identifying marks on the inside of the bolsters? I didn’t check those to closely when I had them off.

Steel Warrior is a Frost brand, whatever that means. Made in China, and reputedly better than Pakistan-made Frosts. I have a Steel Warrior trapper and a peanut, both in a sickly shade of red that earned the trapper my entry for the Ugly Knife thread, and that probably makes them candidates for a tea-dye if I ever have a lot of time on my hands.

They cost about the same as Rough Riders, but are not quite as nice.

I'd be kind of impressed with a company that could make a usable knife with a credible steel for less than Rough Rider for the same design without major human rights violations.

It looks to be a knock off of a Jess Horn/Al Mar/Moki knife.

That Steel Warrior, oddly enough, is actually a bit rare and possibly valuable (relatively speaking). When they were available they were bought up pretty quickly because they were decent knives for the price, plus the allure and exotic nature of the damascus. When I say "valuable", I mean that it's one cheap Chinese knife that likely retains its value and possibly increases. I remember that when I made the decision to bite the bullet and try one out, I couldn't find one for sale anymore.

Somewhere around here, I have what's basically the same knife, but made by SMKW's Rough Rider brand. RR's version has no shield and the bolster is damascus. It was one of their more expensive offerings (closer to $20 than $10) and perhaps too expensive to produce at their usual price point, so long discontinued. There have been various connections between the Frost family and SMKW over the years, so it's possible they were made in the same factory.

The bolsters on this are damascus too, but its pretty scratched up. It was well used by the time I ran across. I'm not much of a traditional folder guy, I have a few GEC offerings, and like those. This one is not near those in the realm of quality that's for sure, but I don't think it was intended to be a high quality piece. I see that when they were sold they went for around 50, but I can't find anyone selling them now. I guess i don't even really want to sell it at this point. It reminds me of a knife my grandpa had, unfortunately I didn't get it when he died, no idea where it went. I'd guess one of the people cleaning out the house nabbed it.

I can't see the pictures, but steel warrior folders are relatively inexpensive and not something anyone would knockoff. ( You could maybe call cutler corner and ask Jim frost, or check their website to compare if it's still available )

Normally their knives are decent for the money though not as good as rough rider, if this is damascus it's probably pakistani damascus and since Jim frost has multiple lines of knives that are produced in Pakistan I'm willing to bet this particular steel warrior was too.
