I am really stoked that I already got the all new Steel Will Modus F25-71 in carbon fiber.

As far as I know the knife is still on pre-order on most websites and on the Steel Will website it is not available yet.

My first impressions of the knife are very good. The size is exactely the same as the ZT 0770cf.
In hand the knife feels very comfortable and light weight. So far I can’t feel any hot spots. All corners and the handles are nicely chamfered and there are no sharp edges. The backspacer stands out due to its bright orange color. Like it!!! There is jimping on the backspacer which feels comfortable, jimping on the flipper tab, the liner and on the tumb ramp. All practical in use.

The steel which is used is one of my favorites; Bohler M390. Stays sharp for a very long time, very rust resistant and sharpens easily. The handles have one recessed liner on the lock side. The other side is just one thick slab of carbon fiber. All feels very ridged. The carbon fiber has a glossy almost slick finish with a mat chamfered finish. Never seen it before!
The blade shape a modified sheepsfoot with a strong tip. It runs on ballbearings and flips like a king! The only downside I could find is the centering which is a little off. I think I can fix that easily. The sharpness is quite good out of the box, but as every knife I will sharpen it on the Wicked Edge to a mirror polish.
Ow, and the clip is just a normal steel clip which does its job. It rides fairly deep in the pocket ans sticks out just a little bit. 9 out 10!

Is the modus in general new to the market? I can't see much in the way of talk about it online. No reviews, etc.

That's what he was saying in his original post. When he looks elsewhere the knife is listed as not in stock as in not released yet. Somehow he got one.

Be careful if you try to adjust the pivot to correct the centering. Steel Will in famous/notorious for "cementing" in the pivot screw. Lots of reports from people who have stripped out the pivot.

I aslo was surprised that I could order one. It was via a well known German retailer. Some how Germany got the knives first.
Really love the knife!

Well that explains it. I believe alot of Steel Will's knives are manufactured in Italy. These are probably literally en route to the New World.

Oh OK, I thought that it was just the CF version which was new.

Wow it looks like the half brother of the 770, but this one is a little less on the looks but is a proper flipper with bearings. It's what the 770 should have been!

Completely agreed. I had a zt 0770 and loved the design, hated the execution. Severely disliked that it was an assisted opening knife, so I de-assisted it, and the action just wasn't right. Hoping to pick up a Modus once I clear up some funds, just wish there was something a little more classy like a titanium backspacer or standoffs instead of a backspacer.

Indeed, the 0770cf looks a bit more stealthy. But if it had ballbearings it would have been perfect.

Are we giving Steel Will a pass for stealing the design?
If those are the same to you, I'd suggest scheduling an appointment with an optometrist. You can't honestly be suggesting that the Modus is a knockoff of the 770, right?

Umm.... you are the one that said it.

I never said it was a copy. Making it similar enough, where direct comparisons are being made to their lineage speaks for itself.

You can say the dimensions are the same. The feel is totally different. And luckily no assisted opening!
