Recommendation? Steel will modus VS Rat ii D2?

Look at Cecil and Ada s comparison of the Rat D2 and AUS 8. For 6-7 dollars more , the D2 Rat still might be the best choice.
Well... Burnt edges weren't removed. And do you cut rope more than cardboard. And also they show results for fine edge and working edge. Just sayin I follow these more than those, but I still like Peter's tests as data points for what they are.

Ankerson does rope too, but doesn't have any import d2 on the list. Just usa d2 by Dozier which shows an improvement over the Recon1 is aus8, after all its got a good heat treatment. Debatable where import d2 would show up on his tests with rope cutting.

One thing is for sure, in cardboard cut tests among more than 2 testers are showing poorer results with import d2 cutting cardboard, something most people cut more than rope. Always exceptions though.

I assume that rope is less abrasive to the harder chromium carbides in d2 than the cardboard is.

Cutting zip ties may show one or the other better than the other too. But dunno anyone other than @Banter 247 that does them but don't know if he collects data on that.

Yikes! You started 4 threads in 7 hours.

You are either overthinking or undereducated. And I DO NOT mean "undereducated" as "stupid", I mean you may need to learn more about what you like in knives by going out and using some.

Stop reading.
Buy something...don't spend a ton of money. A good inexpensive knife like the RAT or Kabar Dozier.
Then go use it.

You will start to know what steel you like, and what grind you like, and what lock you like, and what handle material and ergos you like, etc etc etc.

Then read about who does what you like and/or ask things like "Who makes a good full flat ground AUS-8 lockback folder under $125?"
