Question about the Steelheart knives? What was the longest blade length they produced these knives in? Talking about the ones with the curved grip.

Still doing a little researching and saving up money as I do it. Getting ready to drop some serious money on a good chopping knife for outdoor use. Definitely not going to be a safe queen.

Looking for knives with 10+ inch blades and I kind of like the profile of the steelheart's blade.

ASHBM. Its my next chopping blade. You won't regret it from what I hear. And you get it however you want if ordered from the website.

Yeah I am kind of tempted to get one but I Really like the curved grip. I inquired about getting a custom BM made with the 11 inch blade and curved grip like they used to make. Straight handle BM looks nice but I keep looking at that grip and the angle and wonder how it's going to play on wrist.

I believe the NMFSH (Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Steel Heart) is the biggest in that line, with a 9.5 inch blade.
See BadMojo.ne for pix.

There's a prototype photo I saw that I really liked. Very plain and simple yet heavy-looking blade.

That would be a Fusion Battle Mistress prototype. The final version looked like this:

FBM LE

CG FBM

FFFBM

BTW, "Fusion" in the name of a Busse knife name refers to that handle type.

If by curved you mean the handle then you're talking about a fusion handle. The biggest Steel Heart would be the Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Steel Heart with a 9.5'' blade. After that you move up to a Fusion Battle Mistress at 10" and then on to a Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Battle Mistress at 11.5".

Do you have any considerations for blade length and weight?

If you do not care about those parameters, my personal rankings look like that:

#1 NMFBM
#2 FBM
#3 ASHBM
#4 NMFSH.

If you consider a 1311, that will be #2 in my rankings.

I cannot stress --- how imperative it is for you to get the perfect FSH (Fusion Steel Heart) knife variant --- do yourself a favor and get the HHFSH and then later get one of the Battle Mistresses

I guess it's the Fusion Battle Mistress I'm after then. not sure what HH stands for. I'd at least like a 10 inch blade minimum. Having more weight and edge area on a blade just equates to me as easier chopping when it comes to things like wood.

HH is heavy heart.

The FBM is a great knife and I'm glad I snagged one a couple years ago. They pop up regularly on the exchange now days but be prepared to pay.

The NMFSH is a half inch shorter but performs as well as my FBM in my opinion. I mention them because they are more easily obtained and will definitely cost less.

With patience one can grab a NMFBM on the exchange for a nice price. One can also get one through the custom shop when they have the blanks.
That thing is a chopping beast, out-chops anything that I put on my list.

A Scrap Yard 1311 has been mentioned; I would also consider a Busse Basic 11. Both knives have the very comfortable Resiprene C grips - I like both the shape of the grips and feel of the Res C material. Either of these knives can be found at times on the BF exchange.

Here is a quote from the Scrap Yard web site:
"Resiprene C was made famous as a handle material when it was used on the Busse Combat Basics. Respirene C handles have all the advantages of rubber handles without any of the disadvantages. They are comfortable, shock absorbing, slip resistant when wet, and provide insulation from the cold. Unlike Kraton, Resiprene C is a Non-hygroscopic material which means that it will neither "take on" or "emit" fluids. This quality not only gives them unparalleled durability but makes them extremely easy to keep clean as dirt will simply not stick to them. It is impervious to salt water, petroleum based chemicals and is much more resistant to higher and colder temps than is Kraton. Resiprene C is likewise impervious to the powerful insect repellant, DEET. It is so amazingly tough and durable that Busse stands as the only company to have ever put a Lifetime Guarantee on a rubber handle. All Scrap Yard handles are fully textured to supply a slip-resistant purchase in any grip configuration. So, whether you hold the blade in a saber grip, reverse grip, upside down grip, side grip, or whatever which way you are required to hold it for your particular application, you will be assured of having a secure hold."

The 1111 is also worth a look. The first time a chopped with it I knew it was a keeper. It reminded me of my FBM with a ResC handle. I'd really like to see some more guys try them out because I think most will have great results like I did.

Dang, I just realized they're sold out on the site:eek:

HHFSH actually sounds really nice. It's .30 thick instead of .25 isn't it?

Actually a little thicker at .312 but it's an eight inch blade.

Here is a good reference. It hasn't been updated but still a good source.

A little short for me. I'd like to keep it at 10 inch minimum. I'm going to try and get ahold of their custom shop and see if they'll do the 11 inch battle mistress. I like a lot of real estate on the blade. Makes me have to use less energy to get the thing working.

Here a bunch of vids of me playing with several big Busses, hope those will help you desice what you may like. You can find many more vids on You Tube.
