From what I have read the Chantry mechanical steel has been around since the 1920's. My wife needs something that is easy to use, and something that will keep her kitchen knives in top cutting condition.

If you have a Chantry or know somebody who does, I would like to know if it is up to the task at hand. Big D1

I don't have one, but I did a search and found some pictures. Looks pretty handy, but you could probably find a regular steel for a lot less money, or for around the same amount, you could get a sharpmaker, which is very easy to use. I will say that the Chantry looks very safe. I hope you find someone who has actually used one. I am curious myself.
