I picked up a Buck Steelmaster 137 many years ago in a pawn shop. It's a 5"x3/4" steel which slides out of a metal handle with a lever to lock it in position. Also has a leather sheath. Anyone have any info on age and possible value?

We introduced the Steelmaster in 1981 as I remember and it was dropped about 1990; it was always a contract item. I don't feel there is a lot of appeal to collectors in this item. It should be part of a collection like Larry Oden's - which shows the entire Buck line at a given point. If I wanted to know what it was worth, I'd put it on ebay with a $20 reserve; my GUESS is that a new one, with the proper box, should be worth about $25. Frankly, I'd rather keep it in my hunting bag for that figure; the chisel feature on it is worth a lot in a pinch. Remember, this is just my opinion.

Thanks for the response. Wasn't thinking about selling or trading it. As you say, it's a valuable tool and I'm a user, not a collector, anyway!
